What were the 12 wells of water and 70 palm trees?

The 12 wells and 70 palm trees were an oasis that provided water for the Israelites. Their deeper significance isn't explained; they represented rest, relaxation, and satisfaction of thirst. Seventy trees couldn't shade seven million people, so they symbolized rest rather than actual shade.

Les explains that after the bitter waters were made sweet, Moses led the Israelites by the cloud and pillar of fire—the presence of Jehovah—to an oasis. He admits the 12 wells and 70 palm trees raise a question he cannot fully answer; he says he is sure something is involved, but all he can say is it was an oasis and a place where they could have water to drink. Seven million people could not rest under the shade of 70 trees, but it epitomized rest, relaxation, and satisfaction of their thirst. This follows the lesson that tribulations and sorrows should drive us to the foot of the cross.
