Where does the work have to be done?
The work has to be done down in the valley, not on the mountaintop. A mountaintop experience may thrill and inspire, but it accomplishes nothing; the real labor, trials, and tribulations occur in the valley. Christians must descend into the dirt and grime to face disappointments.
Les explains that a mountaintop experience is thrilling and beautiful, allowing you to see the view and feel the exhilaration of high altitude air. However, he points out that you don't accomplish anything on a mountaintop. The work must be done down in the valley. He applies this to the Christian experience: you may have a mountaintop experience, but don't try to stay there. You've got to get down into the dirt and grime of the valley, where you'll have trials, tribulations, and disappointments.
