What does it mean to be dead to the desires of old Adam?

Being dead to the desires of old Adam means the believer has let old Adam be crucified and is now dead to those desires. This is not something achieved by human effort but is the power of God exercised in His saving salvation, by identification with Christ's crucifixion, who died unto sin once for all.

Les explains that being dead to the desires of old Adam means those who have let old Adam be crucified are now dead to those desires. He stresses this is the power of God, not something you work for or try to attain; it is part of the power of God exercised in His saving salvation. Les connects this to being dead with Christ by identification with the crucifixion, so we believe we shall also live with Him. He notes that Christ died unto sin once to rid us of old Adam, once for all, and that this satisfies for all eternity.

Romans 6:7

For he that is dead is freed from sin.
