Do you have to work to be freed from old Adam, or is it God's power?

Freedom from old Adam is not achieved by human works or self-effort. It comes through God's power exercised in His saving salvation, as the old Adam is crucified and believers are made dead to its desires. It is received by identification with Christ's crucifixion, not attained by trying.

Les explains that those who have let old Adam be crucified are now dead to the desires of that old Adam, and this is again the power of God. You don't work for something like that, and you don't try to attain it; it is all part of the power of God when it is exercised in His saving salvation. He connects this with being dead with Christ by identification with the crucifixion, so that we believe we shall also live with Him. The resurrection is fundamental to our faith, and Christ died once to rid us of old Adam, once for all, satisfying for all eternity.
