Who is our Passover Lamb in 1 Corinthians 5:7?
In 1 Corinthians 5:7, Paul identifies Christ as our Passover Lamb, sacrificed for us. Because of His sacrifice, our sin problem is removed through forgiveness and salvation. Believers are now to be an unleavened people, putting away the old leaven, which refers to evil and sin.
Les explains that 1 Corinthians 5:7 is where Paul writes, “...for even Christ our Passover... He was our Passover Lamb. Even as Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.” Les ties this to the Exodus account, where Israel had to wait on God’s power for redemption; they could not throw up a pontoon bridge or requisition ships to cross the Red Sea. For believers, the power of salvation is epitomized, brought to its crescendo, at the resurrection. It is the power of Christ’s resurrection that makes salvation possible; otherwise, Scripture says, we are yet dead in our sins.
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
