Where did Moses and Aaron know they were leading Israel when they left Egypt?
Moses and Aaron knew they were leading the children of Israel out of Egypt to Palestine. They carried Joseph’s bones with them because Joseph had sworn that God would surely visit His covenant people and bring them back up to that land.
Les explains that even as Moses and Aaron prepared to move the children of Israel out of Egypt, their destination was Palestine. Joseph had known by faith that God would take him back up to Palestine, and he made Israel swear to carry his bones. Moses took Joseph’s bones with him. After leaving Succoth, they encamped in Etham on the edge of the wilderness, and the Lord went before them by day.
And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.
