Why does the body still die and get sick if the Holy Spirit lives in us?
The Holy Spirit indwells the believer as the paraclete or Comforter of John 14, securing the soul and spirit for the Lord. But the old body is still thrown to death, sickness, and failure. The soul and spirit belong to God, while the old body continues in frailty.
Les explains that the Holy Spirit is indwelling us to be that paraclete of John 14, the Comforter, but the old body is still thrown to death and sickness and failure. The soul and the spirit are the Lord's, yet the physical body has not been changed. So even though Paul was confident and willing to be absent from the body and present with the Lord, he still labored because his life was not his own and there was unfinished business—people still needed to be reached with the gospel. The believer walks by faith, taking God at His Word.
