Les Feldick Bible Study

When we get saved, is our whole being redeemed, or only part of it?

At salvation, the soul and spirit are totally redeemed and made ready for eternity, but the body is not yet redeemed. God gives the indwelling Holy Spirit as a down payment, guaranteeing that believers will one day receive a new body, reunited with soul and spirit for eternity.

Les explains that the adoption is the redemption of the body. Even though the moment we are saved the soul and spirit are totally redeemed, saved, and made ready for eternity, the old body is not ready yet. God has put His down payment on it by virtue of the indwelling Holy Spirit, His brand on us. That assures us that whether through the valley of the shadow of death, the cemetery, or some other bizarre disaster, one day we will have a new body reunited with the soul and spirit, making us a complete entity for the eternal. In II Corinthians chapter 5, while we are at home in the body we are absent bodily from the Lord, though spiritually we are already citizens of heaven, translated into the kingdom of His dear Son, as Colossians makes plain.
