What do you have to do to be saved after hearing the gospel?
After hearing the gospel, the one requirement for salvation is to believe it—trusting that Christ died and rose from the dead. It is not a matter of doing anything else people might think is required. Upon believing, God seals the believer with the Holy Spirit of promise.
Les explains that a person must be old enough to understand they are a sinner and need salvation, and that the gospel is the remedy. The gospel is the word of truth: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, that Christ died and rose from the dead. After hearing the gospel of salvation, people often add things they think must be done, but the text says what is required is 'Believed!' After believing, God seals the believer with the Holy Spirit of promise as an earnest or down payment of the purchased possession. Salvation is complete for the soul and spirit—redeemed, justified, sanctified—but the body awaits its future redemption.
