Where is the believer's citizenship according to Philippians 3:20?
According to Philippians 3:20, the believer’s citizenship is in heaven. The verse states our conversation, or citizenship, is in heaven, from whence we also look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. The church awaits Him as Savior and head of the body, not as King coming to the Mount of Olives.
Les explains that "conversation" in Philippians 3:20 means citizenship, as a marginal help indicates, and that this citizenship is in heaven. From that same heaven, believers look for the Savior, not the King. Les emphasizes that Christ will come at the second coming to the Mount of Olives, to the nation of Israel, as King of kings and Lord of lords, but not for the church. Instead, He comes for His body, the body of Christ, as the Savior and head of the body. Then verse 21 says He will change our vile, corrupt body and fashion it like His glorious body. Les points to Christ’s 40 days after His resurrection as a glimpse of the new resurrected body: He looked normal, walked on two feet, appeared as another human being, walked with the disciples on the road to Emmaus, and then suddenly vanished without going out the door or slipping out a window.
