What is renewed day by day while the outward man perishes in 2 Corinthians 4:16?

According to 2 Corinthians 4:16, the inward man is renewed day by day even while the outward man perishes. The verse contrasts the decaying outward man with the inward man, which is refreshed daily. This renewal concerns the inward man, not the outward frame, and continues day by day.

Les explains in 2 Corinthians 4:16 that although the outward man perishes, the inward man is renewed day by day. In the surrounding verses, he notes that the light affliction is but for a moment and works a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. He also points out that believers look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, because the things seen are temporal, earthly, and not heavenly.

2 Corinthians 4:16

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
