What did Paul mean by 'even so we also should walk in newness of life' in Romans 6:4?
The phrase means that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, believers likewise come out of deadness and experience a new life. The old Adam must die, they are separated from the old lifestyle, and they now live in that newness.
Les explains that the 'even so' of Romans 6:4 means 'in the same way, in the same manner.' Just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, believers also come out of a deadness and experience a new life. He notes that before this, the old Adam must die and we must be separated from him, identifying with Christ's death, even as the three days and three nights signified that Christ was really dead. The flip side is that we are no longer in that old lifestyle; because of God's grace and mercy, we now experience His love.
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
