Why did God leave the knowledge of His glory in the hands of mortal men instead of angels?
God did not see fit to entrust the knowledge of His glory to angels; He placed this treasure in mortal men. Those men are earthen vessels—bodies of flesh made from the elements of the earth. Paul was human like everyone else, and ordinary believers still share the Word with whoever will listen.
Les explains that in 2 Corinthians 4:7, after describing the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, Paul says, “We have this treasure.” Although this knowledge is magnificent, God did not see fit to put it in the hands of angels but left it in the hands of mortal men. Paul was just as human as the rest of us, and it did not stop with him. Other men came along, and down through human history, even today, every believer has the opportunity to share the Word with whoever might listen. The treasure is the light of God, and the earthen vessels are not clay pots but this body of flesh, made up of the elements of the earth.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
