Les Feldick Bible Study

What quote did D.L. Moody read at the start of his ministry that shaped his resolve?

The quote was a previous great man of God's deathbed lament: 'I had always hoped that I could be the man that God had used to the full. But I've failed.' Dwight L. Moody read it at the start of his ministry and resolved, 'Gentlemen, I hope to be that man.'

Les explains that while teaching on knowing Christ beyond human knowledge and being filled with all the fullness of God, a thought came to him about Dwight L. Moody. At the beginning of Moody's tremendous ministry, he read a quote by a previous great man of God, possibly from England, whose name Les did not remember. That man on his deathbed said he had always hoped to be the man God used to the full, but he had failed. When Moody read it and began his ministry, Moody said, 'Gentlemen, I hope to be that man.'
