When we trust in what Jesus did on the cross, who exactly are we trusting in?
When we trust in what Jesus did on the cross, we are trusting in the Creator God of Genesis 1:1, the same God who was manifested in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth. We are not trusting merely a Jewish carpenter, but the Creator Himself who took upon Himself the work of redemption.
Les explains that Jesus of the cross was the same God who created everything in Genesis 1:1. This truth, when clearly presented, can astonish people who have been in church all their lives but never seen it. Jesus of Nazareth is the same God of Genesis 1:1, the only difference being He was now manifested in the flesh. Therefore, when we put our faith and trust in what He accomplished, we are not talking about some Jew who grew up in a carpenter shop; we are talking about the Creator Himself, who has taken upon Himself the very work of redemption. Les emphasizes that this is what we have to understand. In 2 Corinthians 4:5, Paul also says, “For we preach not ourselves,” defending his apostleship as a bondslave for Jesus’ sake, not for personal fame or empire.
