Is the God of Colossians the same as the God of Genesis?

Yes. Scripture identifies the Son as the visible manifestation of the invisible God, and Paul attributes all creation to Him, so the God of Colossians is the same God of Genesis, differing only in that He has now taken on human flesh and appearance.

Les explains that Colossians 1:15 presents Christ as the image of the invisible God, a visible manifestation of the invisible Godhead. In verse 14, redemption is through His blood. Les notes that by faith we believe the Triune God—Father, Son, and Spirit—was invisible, but God the Son stepped out of that invisible Godhead and became the visible manifestation of the whole. Then in verse 16, Paul by inspiration attributes creation to the Lord Jesus. Les says this is why He is the same God in Colossians as He is in Genesis; the only difference is He has now taken on human flesh, human appearance. All things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, thrones, dominions, principalities—even the realm of Satan—were created by Him.
