Is the God of the Old Testament the same as the God we deal with today?
Yes. The God of the Old Testament, the God of the Mosaic law, is the same God we deal with today, and He has not changed. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He hated in Genesis, He hates today; what He admonished Israel to avoid, He still admonishes us to avoid.
Les explains that while he is a proponent that we are not under law but under grace, the God of the Old Testament and of the Mosaic law is the same God we deal with today. God has not changed; He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Consequently, the things God hated back in Genesis, He hates today, and the things God admonished Israel not to do for their own good, He admonishes us today not to do for our own good. The circumstances of the world have not changed, and what damaged an individual's health in Israel's early days is no different than it is today. This Exodus 32 lesson remains just as applicable today as it was for Corinth in Paul's day and when it happened in Exodus.
