What did the Romans guarantee regarding the Jewish temple offerings?

The Roman authorities guaranteed that offerings sent to the Jewish temple from any section of the Roman Empire would have safe arrival. This protection stemmed from Rome's respect for ancient religions, so they did not bother Judaism but instead protected its temple worship.

Les explains that he often wondered why the Roman government came down so hard on Christianity while not bothering Judaism. He read that the Roman authorities guaranteed that the offerings to the temple from whatever section of the Roman Empire would have safe arrival. Therefore, Rome had no problem with the Jews' religion and protected it. Les suggests the reason was that Romans had due respect for any ancient religion, whether pagan or whatever. Since the Jews' religion went back into antiquity, the Romans had a high regard for it. Christianity, however, was something new, coming from the upstart of one man, so they had no compunctions about putting it to death and martyring those adhering to it.
