What kind of liberty does the Spirit of the Lord bring?
The Spirit of the Lord brings liberty, not the heavy hand of legalism. Every believer possesses that liberty, including the wherewithal to search the Scriptures and come to their own conclusions. This freedom rests on the Book, allowing honest disagreement while remaining grounded in Scripture.
Les explains that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty—not the heavy hand of legalism. Every believer has that liberty: the wherewithal to search the Scriptures and come to their own conclusions. That is why Les says he does not mind if people write or call and say they disagree; that is fine, because we have that liberty. But such disagreement must be done on the basis of the Book. He then moves to verse 18, where believers with open face, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed. Les notes that this word "changed" is the same identical word in the Greek as the transfiguration account, and every believer has experienced that already.
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
