Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les put a lot of emphasis on the Septuagint?

The Septuagint was the Old Testament Hebrew translated into Greek by 70 Jewish scholars years before Christ. It receives emphasis because it was the Greek Jesus always referred to; when quoting the Old Testament, if He did not use Hebrew, He quoted from the Septuagint Greek.

Les explains that he does not do a lot of Greek study, but once in a while a word catches his mind, and he chases it down. He gives the example of verse 17 and the Greek word connected with corrupting the Word of God, saying that when you look it up in the Septuagint, that is where you sometimes have to go. He reminds his audience that the Septuagint was the Old Testament Hebrew translated into Greek by 70 Jewish scholars quite a few years before Christ. The reason he puts a lot of emphasis on the Septuagint is because that was the Greek Jesus always referred to. Whenever Jesus quoted from the Old Testament, if He did not quote it in Hebrew, He would quote it from the Septuagint Greek. Les also notes that this is where a lot of Greek scholars put the Greek language together for our own benefit.
