What is the Aegean Sea between, and where are Macedonia and Athens?

The Aegean Sea lies between Turkey and the mainland of Europe. Macedonia is described as northern Greece, while Athens is located in southern Greece. This geography places Macedonia and Athens on the European side, opposite Asia Minor, with the Aegean Sea separating them from Turkey.

Les explains that if you picture the Mediterranean Sea and Turkey winding out to the west, the Aegean Sea is between Turkey and the mainland of Europe. That mainland area is Macedonia, or northern Greece, and Athens is in southern Greece. Paul’s early ministry had been in the western half of present-day Turkey, called Asia Minor. Going around that peninsula leads into the Adriatic Sea, and across from it is Rome.
