Who seals believers and gives the earnest of the Spirit in their hearts?
God Himself is the one who establishes believers in Christ, anoints them, seals them, and gives the earnest, or down payment, of the Spirit in their hearts. Scripture identifies God as the agent of this sealing and the giver of the Spirit's earnest within the believer.
Les explains that in 2 Corinthians 1:21-22, Paul writes that the one who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us in that position, is God Himself, who has sealed us and given the earnest, or down payment, of the Spirit, in our hearts. Les points to Ephesians chapter 1 as a perfect parallel to that verse, though he does not develop it further in this segment. The sealing and the Spirit's earnest are therefore God's own work, securing the believer's position in Christ.
