Why does God encourage us in our trials?
God encourages believers in every tribulation so they can pass that same comfort to others in trouble. Scripture says the Father of mercies comforts us, enabling us to encourage anyone in any trouble with the encouragement we ourselves receive from God.
Les explains from 2 Corinthians 1 that the word "comforteth" in verse 4 can be rendered "encourages." The Father of mercies and God of all comfort encourages us in all our tribulation so that we may be able to encourage those in any trouble by the same encouragement we ourselves receive from God. Les applies this to today: when we go through trying and testing times, we have the promise that God will be a constant encouragement. He also connects this to the question of why bad things happen to good people—God can show us that He is sufficient.
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
