What did the four groups in the Corinthian church cause for the apostle Paul?

The four groups in the Corinthian church caused the apostle Paul a lot of dissension and grief. Their divisions—some claiming Christ, Peter, Apollos, or Paul—were part and parcel of their carnality, showing they had not grown spiritually. This grieved Paul.

Les explains that the Corinthian church was carnal and had divisions. Even in that small group there were four distinct divisions: some said they followed Christ, another group followed Peter, a third followed Apollos, and a fourth said they heard the gospel through Paul and would follow him. Les teaches that these four groups caused a lot of dissension and a lot of grief to the apostle Paul, and this was part and parcel of their carnality; they just did not grow spiritually. Paul's first letter addressed these problems, and by the time of 2 Corinthians, many things were corrected, but Paul still had to defend his apostleship.
