Who was Paul instructed to remember?
Paul was instructed to remember the poor saints in Jerusalem. They had sold their possessions and contributed to a common fund in Acts 2 and 3, anticipating the Kingdom, but when it did not come, they became needy. Offerings from Paul's Gentile converts were brought to them.
Les explains that Paul was always instructed to remember the poor saints in Jerusalem. These believers had given everything they had, cashing in CDs, selling land and houses, and putting it all in a common kitty in Acts chapter 2 and 3 in light of the Kingdom. But the Kingdom did not come because Israel rejected it, leaving many of these saints destitute. They had come from places like Babylon and Rome for Passover or Pentecost, got involved, gave what they had, and lacked even ship fare home. They lived off the common fund, unable to work as strangers, but God in His providence cared for them through offerings from Paul's converts from Gentiledom, brought back to Jerusalem. Paul gave orders to the churches of Galatia and Corinth to collect on the first day of the week, Resurrection Day.
