Les Feldick Bible Study

Where is a believer's soul and spirit after death according to Paul?

Paul teaches that for the believer, being absent from the body means being present with the Lord. The soul and spirit depart the body at death and are with Christ in heaven, awaiting the resurrection, when God will bring them from heaven to be reunited with their resurrected bodies.

Les explains that the body is placed in the grave, but so far as the soul and spirit are concerned, absent from the body is present with the Lord. At the resurrection, God will bring the departed souls and spirits of believers only—not unbelievers—from heaven down to the atmosphere. There they are reunited with their resurrected bodies, for the dead in Christ shall rise first.

2 Corinthians 5:8

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
