Does God only care about your soul and spirit, not your body?
No. God's concern includes the body, not just the soul and spirit. A human functions as a complete entity only as body, soul, and spirit. Though a believer's soul and spirit are already redeemed, the body remains unredeemed and under the curse. The Holy Spirit is God's down payment guaranteeing He will redeem body, soul, and spirit together for eternity.
Les explains that we should not forget about the body and say God is only concerned about the soul and spirit. Even for eternity, a person must be a complete entity. No human being can function as a complete entity unless he is body, soul, and spirit; all three must be brought back together before we can spend eternity in the presence of Christ. For the believer, the soul and spirit have already been redeemed, but the body is still unredeemed, still in the flesh, and still under the curse. The very presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life is God's down payment that He will complete the whole transaction. He will not redeem only the soul and spirit; He will redeem body, soul, and spirit together. Les then connects this to Romans chapter 8, beginning at verse 18, where the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed in us, and creation awaits the manifestation of the children of God.
