What is Christ's authority like at the beginning of the thousand years?

At the beginning of the thousand years, Christ's authority is absolute: He reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, with no Satanic power able to oppose Him. Satan is bound in an abyss under spiritual chains, though still alive, until the thousand years have run their course.

Les explains that from the onset of His rule and reign in the thousand years, Christ is absolute King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and there will be nothing of Satanic power to oppose Him. Satan is still alive, merely bound in an abyss of some kind and held under spiritual chains until the thousand years have run their course. Paul was led by the Spirit to write that Christ must reign until He has put all enemies under His feet. The final setting away of Satan cannot take place until the thousand years have finished; only then is Satan released and allowed to cause the nations to follow him and reject the sovereignty of the King and of God.

Revelation 20:4

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
