Can a church member not be part of the Body of Christ?
Yes. Scripture indicates that many bona fide church members are not members of the Body of Christ. Membership in a local church or denomination does not place a person into that Body; only the Lord Himself, through the Spirit of God, does so. People cannot judge another's salvation because only God sees the heart.
Les teaches that no one should look at another person and declare they are going to hell, since salvation could still come to that person at a future date. He also says judging whether someone is a believer belongs to God alone, because only God can see the heart. Yet he states from Scripture and surrounding evidence that many bona fide church members are not members of the Body of Christ, because only the Lord Himself places a person into that Body. A denomination, preacher, or priest cannot do it; only the Spirit of God can. The purpose of all God has been doing on behalf of the church is to edify the Body of Christ, the true believers, through prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, until all come into the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a mature man.
