How can the Body of Christ be one body if it has many members?
Paul illustrates the Body of Christ with the human body: fingers, toes, eyes, ears, arms, and legs are many members, yet they form one body, not twenty bodies. Likewise, every believer, regardless of color or denominational handle, is part of the one Body of Christ.
Les explains that Paul uses the simple analogy of the human body. Just as the physical body has a central nervous system, a mind as the core of one's being, and nerve endings that respond so the whole body functions with its headquarters in the head, Paul uses that as an illustration of the Body of Christ. This is a new term and a Pauline revelation, not something found in the Gospels. Paul points out that we have ten fingers, ten toes, eyes, ears, arms, and legs—many members—but we do not have twenty bodies. We have one body, and all those members are part and parcel of Him. Then he sets the Body of Christ as every believer around the world, regardless of color or denominational handle, if they are a believer.
