What gospel was proclaimed during Christ's earthly ministry and by Peter?
During Christ's earthly ministry and by Peter and others, the gospel proclaimed was the Gospel of the Kingdom. This differs from the later revelation given to Paul, which centered on Christ's finished work, death for sins, burial, and resurrection for justification.
Les explains that back in Christ's earthly ministry, Peter and the others were proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom. He contrasts this with the later revelation given to the Apostle Paul, who was raised up to go to the Gentile world with a whole different concept of salvation. That later message was based on the finished work of the cross—how Christ died for our sins, His blood was shed, He was buried, and He rose from the dead for our justification. Les notes that this truth is not found in Scripture until the revelations given to Paul.
