Les Feldick Bible Study

Where was Peter when he preached on the day of Pentecost and who was in the audience?

On the day of Pentecost, Peter stood and preached at the great temple complex, with thousands upon thousands of Jews who had come from all over the then-known world. His audience was addressed as “ye men of Israel,” and the passage does not include a single Gentile.

Les explains that in the early chapters of Acts, God remains gracious to Israel despite the nation’s rejection and crucifixion of their Messiah. Through Peter and the other eleven apostles, God still gives Israel the opportunity to repent and to have the King and the Kingdom if they believe. In Acts chapter 2, this is seen at Pentecost. Peter stands up at the great temple complex, and thousands upon thousands of Jews have come in from all over the then-known world. Acts 2:22 addresses them as “ye men of Israel.” Les stresses that it is important to see what the Bible does not say: it does not say “and all you Gentiles,” nor does it include a single Gentile. This fits the larger overview of God preparing to turn from Israel to the Gentile world to call out the Body of Christ.

Acts 2:22
