What was Israel's true role that God intended according to Les?
Israel's true intended role was to be Jehovah's vehicle to go out and reach the Gentiles, so that through Abraham all families of the earth would be blessed. God called them to carry His covenantal purpose to the nations, but they rejected that role in unbelief and fought the apostle's Gentile mission.
Les explains that Israel had completely been blinded to her true role that Jehovah had intended: to be His vehicle to go out and reach the Gentiles. Instead, Israel had been told and taught for years, "You are God's covenant people, you're special," and that thinking controlled them so they never saw why God called them out in the first place. When Paul even mentioned "Gentile," a riot erupted; they said, "Away with such a fellow from the earth, it's not fit that he should live," and they would not permit the apostle to go to the Gentiles, fighting him every inch of the way. Les also points to the last statement of the Abrahamic covenant: "And in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed." That blessing would come by their Messiah being crucified and becoming the object of faith, not just of Israel, but of the whole world.
