Who led the gathering at the tower of Babel and why did they gather?

Nimrod led the gathering at the tower of Babel. The people gathered in total rebellion against God's command to scatter and repopulate the earth, seeking through religion to usurp God's throne—an effort that reflects Satan's longstanding goal rather than obedience to God.

Les explains that after Noah's three sons came out of the ark, they repopulated the Middle East for about 200 years. Then, in total rebellion against God's instruction to scatter and repopulate the planet, they gathered at the tower of Babel under one man called Nimrod. At Babel, the tower was not intended to take brick and stone all the way to heaven; it was a place of religion by which they could religiously usurp the throne of God. That, Les says, has always been Satan's goal, as they sought to replace what God had instructed with what Satan would promote himself.
