Are Christians natural or spiritual before and after salvation?
Before salvation, a person is natural, born of the flesh as a son of Adam. After salvation, having been born from above, that person is spiritual. This follows Scripture's consistent order: first the natural, then the spiritual, as with Adam and Christ.
Les teaches from I Corinthians 15 that the spiritual was not first, but the natural comes first and afterward the spiritual. He shows this as the format of all God's dealing: Cain the natural, Abel the spiritual; Esau the natural, Jacob the spiritual; Ishmael the natural, Isaac the spiritual; King Saul the natural, King David the spiritual. Bringing it to believers, as sons of Adam we are born natural, of the flesh, but after experiencing salvation we have been born from above and are now spiritual. He also applies the pattern to the Antichrist, the natural man, and then Christ, the spiritual. Paul refers to the first man, Adam, then the spiritual, Christ, and this is the Law of Scripture.
