What is the spiritual condition of every person before salvation?

Scripture teaches that before salvation every person is spiritually dead in trespasses and sins. They walk according to the course of this world and according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the children of disobedience. Believers too were once dead and no different from the rest.

Les explains from Ephesians 2:1 that the whole human race, so far as God is concerned, is dead in trespasses and sins. He stresses that believers were in the same condition: “We too were dead in trespasses and sins.” Before believing, they walked according to the course of this world and were part and parcel of the children of disobedience. As a believer, one should be different, but before believing there was no difference. Les illustrates this with a man who once would have been in the crowd and never dreamed of attending Bible study, but later preferred studying the Word. He notes Paul repeatedly brings up that we were dead.
