Did Jesus pay the sin debt for everyone or only for believers?

Christ's death paid the sin debt for the entire human race, not merely for believers. This is not limited atonement; the payment covers every person who has ever lived. However, that payment benefits a person only when they personally believe it and "cash in."

Les teaches that at the heart of the Gospel is the truth that Christ did not merely die a martyr's death or at the hands of an angry mob. In eternity, God had already set it in motion that He would die and shed His blood. He would pay the sin debt for the whole human race, not just for the believer. Les explains that he does not believe in limited atonement, but believes Christ paid the sin debt for every human being that has ever lived. Yet that payment goes for nothing until the person believes it personally, and then they cash in.
