Les Feldick Bible Study

If Jesus paid the sin debt for everyone, why isn't everyone saved?

Christ paid the sin debt for the whole human race, not only believers, so the atonement is not limited. However, that payment benefits no one automatically; it goes for nothing until a person believes it personally and thereby cashes in. Unbelief leaves that provision unappropriated.

Les explains that God had already set it in motion in eternity that Christ would die and shed His blood, paying the sin debt for the whole human race, not just for the believer. He rejects limited atonement and says the payment was for every human being who has ever lived. Yet it goes for nothing until the person believes it personally and then "cashes in." In the same context, Les notes that many people have only a mental assent to the resurrection and have never really experienced resurrection power in their own life, illustrating the difference between an objective payment and personal appropriation.
