Why would Christians be foolish if there is no resurrection?
Paul argues that if there is no resurrection from the dead, then Christ is not risen, and Christian preaching and faith are vain. Believers who faithfully attend church, sing hymns, and engage in Christian activity would be wasting their time, making them the most foolish of all people.
Les explains that Paul probably encountered Sadducees in Corinth, since they denied any resurrection from the dead and rejected it as foolishness. Paul reasons that if there is no resurrection, then Christ is not risen. If Christ is not risen, then preaching is vain and faith is vain. So anyone who ascribes to Christianity, faithfully attends church, and is faithful in Christian activity is, of all people, most foolish; they are wasting their time. Why sit in the pew and sing the hymns of the faith if there is no resurrection? It is foolishness. Paul uses this as an argument.
