What proof did Paul give that Jesus rose from the dead in verse 5?

Paul cites eyewitness testimony as proof of the resurrection: the risen Christ was seen by Cephas, who is Peter, and then by the whole twelve at once. This confirms the resurrection through multiple apostolic firsthand witnesses, not merely an unverified claim.

Les explains that this is the resurrection chapter in the letter to the Corinthians. Paul speaks of the fact that Christ rose from the dead and gives proof of it: He was seen of Cephas, that is Peter, and then of the other eleven, or the whole twelve at once. Paul goes on to say He was afterward seen by over 500 brethren, Jewish believers in the Jerusalem area, at one time, perhaps gathered on a Lord's Day. The greater part remained alive when Paul wrote, about A.D. 59, roughly 31 years later, so they could still tell others that they had seen Him.
