What does 1 Corinthians 15:5 say happened to Jesus?

First Corinthians 15:5 states that Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by Cephas, who is Peter, and then by the twelve apostles together. Paul presents this appearance as proof of the resurrection in the resurrection chapter, identifying Cephas as Peter.

Les explains that 1 Corinthians 15 is the resurrection chapter. In verse 5, Paul goes on to speak of the fact that Jesus rose from the dead, and as proof of it, He was seen of Cephas—that is Peter—and then of the other eleven, or the whole twelve at once. Les adds that afterward Jesus was seen by over five hundred brethren, Jewish believers in the Jerusalem area, at one time, probably gathered on a Lord's Day. Paul wrote around 59 A.D., about 31 years later, and said the greater part of those witnesses remained alive.
