Les Feldick Bible Study

What does 'if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant' mean?

The statement means it is a matter of choice. If a person wants to know what the Word says, they can read it and study it and learn. If they do not want to know and want to remain ignorant, God gives them that prerogative; nobody will force them.

Les teaches that this boils down to a matter of choice. Paul wrote to the little congregation in Corinth, and he knew what he wrote was inspired by the Holy Spirit, so it was not just man's idea but the Word of God. If a person wants to know what the Word says, they come into it, read it, study it, and learn. If they do not want to know and want to remain ignorant, God gives them that prerogative, and nobody is going to force them. Les then points to the next verse: desire to prophesy, to speak forth the Word, because the printed Word had not yet come, and do not forbid speaking in languages, since it is a commandment from the Lord not to forbid the use of languages. Verse 40 says all things in the local congregation should be done decently and in order, because that brings honor and glory to God. Many people take these things out of context and forget that the primary purpose of all we do is to bring honor and glory to God.

1 Corinthians 14:38

But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
