What does Paul mean by living by the faith of the Son of God?

Paul means the new life a believer now lives in the flesh is lived by the faith, or faithfulness, of the Son of God. It rests on being crucified with Christ by identification and on His finished work—death, burial, and resurrection—not on human effort or merit.

Les teaches that in Galatians 2:20 Paul is crucified with Christ by identification with Christ's death, yet he lives. The life he now lives in the flesh is lived by faith; Les prefers to render it 'the faithfulness of the Son of God.' This ties to the Gospel: Christ died for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose from the dead. When we come under that forgiveness, we are forgiven everything—past, present, and future—not because of anything we have done, but because of what Christ accomplished on our behalf. It is beyond human comprehension, yet believed because the Book teaches it.

Galatians 2:20

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
