What does it mean to live by the faithfulness of the Son of God?

The believer’s new life is not sustained by personal effort but rests on Christ’s finished work and His own faithfulness. Paul says he is crucified with Christ, yet lives, and that life in the flesh is lived by faith—specifically the faithfulness of the Son of God.

Les explains from Galatians 2:20 that Paul is crucified with Christ, which is the function of the Gospel: Christ died for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose from the dead. When a person comes under that forgiveness, everything—past, present, and future—is forgiven. This is beyond human comprehension; it is believed because the Book teaches it. Forgiveness is not because of anything we have done but because of what Christ accomplished. Paul then says that although he is crucified by identification with Christ’s death, yet he lives, and the life he now lives in the flesh is lived by faith. Les prefers to call it the faithfulness of the Son of God, emphasizing that the life is lived by the faithfulness of the Son of God. The Gospel is simple yet complex, not fully understood this side of glory.
