What were Peter and the eleven preaching at Pentecost and in what languages?

At Pentecost, Peter and the eleven were preaching the Gospel—that Jesus was the Christ—using languages that everyone present could understand. This miraculous speaking was the work of the Holy Spirit and served a divine purpose to bring salvation, just as the overall purpose of Scripture is to make the plan of salvation known.
