What does Paul say is required for salvation?

Paul declares that salvation requires faith plus nothing—not works of the law. He contrasts receiving the Spirit by works with hearing faith, insisting saving faith needs nothing else. If it were otherwise, Christ died for nothing. Romans 10:17 confirms faith comes by hearing, not by works.

Les explains that Paul is emphatic in Galatians: salvation is faith plus nothing, while the Christian experience as we go on down the road is a separate matter. Paul asks whether they received the Spirit, the evidence of salvation, by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith, and answers no way to law-keeping. Comparing Scripture with Scripture, Les points to Romans 10:17: saving faith, the kind that needs nothing else, comes by hearing—not works—and there is no work in hearing.
