What did Paul say is required for salvation?

Paul taught that salvation requires faith plus nothing—not works of the law. The finished work of Christ is sufficient; adding anything to faith makes Christ's death vain. Saving faith comes by hearing, not by works, so no human effort or law-keeping is required.

Les explains that Paul's gospel is faith plus nothing for salvation. He distinguishes salvation itself from the Christian experience, stressing that if salvation were not by faith alone, Christ died for nothing and His death was in vain. Les points to Galatians chapter 3, where Paul asks whether the Galatians received the Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith, answering emphatically, "No way," to law-keeping as the means. Les then compares Scripture with Scripture in Romans 10:17, showing that faith—saving faith, the kind that needs nothing else—comes by hearing, and there is no work in hearing.
