How can believers stand blameless before God?
Believers stand blameless before God because of His grace—His unmerited favor—not because of personal deserving or sinless performance. Grace is not license to sin; it does not tell the believer to do as they please. When a Spirit-led believer fails while seeking to please God, God does not cast them out; He restores them.
Les explains that none of us deserve to stay saved, but we do because of His grace, if we have been truly saved in the first place. In Galatians chapter 2, believers stand before Him blameless because of the grace of God, that unmerited favor. Les stresses that this is not license: grace does not say to the believer, go out and do what you please. But when the believer is under the power of the Holy Spirit, trying his best in the light of Scripture to walk pleasing in God's sight, and he fails, God does not kick him out. Les uses the illustration of a parent watching a little one take first faltering steps. When the child falls, the parent does not get upset and kick him; instead, the parent picks him up, gets him on those wobbly feet, and gets him going. That is what God does.
