Les Feldick Bible Study

If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, what should you do about the food served?

When an unbeliever invites you to a meal, eat whatever is set before you and ask no questions for conscience' sake. Do not worry about kosher status; the Lord created it, so thank Him and eat. But if the host says beforehand the meat came from a pagan temple, that changes things.

Les explains that the quoted instruction says if an unbeliever bids you to a feast and you are disposed to go, whatsoever is set before you, eat it, asking no question for conscience' sake. He ties this to the freedom grace brings, even to the Jew, so a believer need not worry whether food is kosher or not. The Lord has created it; thank the Lord for it and eat it. Les also recalls Peter's vision in Acts, where Peter was told to kill and eat, which was a shock to a kosher Jew. However, Les notes a limit: if the host tells you ahead of time that the meat being served came from a pagan temple, that makes it different.
