What is true pride all about according to the Bible?
True pride is the desire to gain control over other people. It explains power-hungry rulers such as Napoleon, Stalin, and Hitler, who wanted authority over massive numbers. Satan showed the same prideful ambition when he offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus would fall down and worship him.
Les explains that true pride is all about getting control over other people. He points out that politicians or military commanders, those who can control massive numbers of people, are literally grabbed by power. That is why notorious emperors like Napoleon, Stalin, and Hitler became so power hungry—they wanted control over the masses. In the temptation, Satan takes Jesus up into an exceeding high mountain and shows Him all the kingdoms of the world. Satan tells Jesus that if He will fall down and worship him, He can have control over all these nations, and they will bow at His feet because they are His. Les also suggests that Satan must not have known that one day these same nations will be under Christ’s rulership when He rules and reigns, coming as a result of His sovereignty.
